London Art Fair 2022:

Sound Of Nature

Ruup & Form is delighted to be welcomed back to participate in Platform, London Art Fair again in 2022. For Platform 2022 the theme is Music and its part in contemporary visual art. Ruup & Form has collaborated with four incredible artists to create thoughtful works that we can’t wait to share with you.

Presenting four artists who have taken the idea of Sound of Nature forward to explore music in our natural world

Annette Marie Townsend takes inspiration from Rimsky Korsakov’s classical piece from the opera The Tale of Tsar Saltan, in Flight of the Bumblebees. Kuniko Maeda turns to John Cage Haiku for piano inspired by his creative process, rhythmic structure, and new approaches to harmony. Cage turned to Zen Buddhism and other Eastern philosophies and concluded that all the activities that make up music must be seen as part of a single natural process. Each haiku is built around three measures of five, seven and five quarter notes with silence playing an essential role in these pieces.

Nadia-Anne Ricketts, Woven Textile and Sound Artist at exactly 22:22, 22.2.22 created a portal soundscape using her instruments, of a 32’ Symphonic Gong, a 24’ Venus Gong along with various crystal bowls, to form an immersive sound bath which was performed and recorded live. Each frequency forms an invisible geometric pattern within time and space, woven within the fabric of our universe, which is captured using BeatWoven audio visual software, and fused with the grid like threads upon a weaving loom, to materialize this spectrum from intangible to matter.

Naomi Mcintosh Lost Song is a series of 5 vessels that visually capture bird song through data. Currently there are 67 species on the RSPB “red list” of globally threatened species in severe decline. Among those most at risk are those that fill the summer skies with song - corncrakes, turtle doves, cuckoos, skylarks and nightingales. Each of theses vessels is named after one of these birds.
