Hannah Lane
Having specialised in wood-work during her degree, Hannah transferred her acquired skills to develop her new material, Paperwork. This process is formed through layering pages of unwanted books. Traditional woodworking methods are then used to cut objects from the material; the unique surface patterns on the paper can never be recreated and echo the wood grain. Ultimately, wood becomes paper and becomes wood again.
Recycling is a key element within Hannah’s work, so to be able to create a technique using the printed pages of unwanted books and paper that no longer had a use became a defining factor within her practice.
In 2019, Hannah’s practice came full circle as she began combining paper and wood. The relationship between the two materials is taking her on a new journey within her process by marrying the two. Recent exhibitions include; Reclaim/Reimagine/Repurpose, Unit Twelve Gallery, Stafford, (2020).
